Most small business owners want to up their social media game but may feel uncertain about when are the best times to post on social media. You may have spent a lot of time and research figuring out your target audience and their pain points. Knowing what to post is different from the best time to post on social media.
While there are some general rules of thumb about posting on various social media platforms, the times are going to be highly unique to each business model.
Why Does Timing Matter?
Social media engagement pushes your content to the top of people’s feeds. You can build a relationship with your followers and increase brand name recognition. Around 60% of consumers use Facebook for customer service. The best time on social media is when the most people are on the platform browsing.
You must post at the right time or there is little point in putting anything on your page. But you also have to add the elements that cause people to share, like and comment on your posts. On Facebook, videos get 400% more engagement than text-only posts.
The right post at the right time can drive traffic to your site and help you find new customers.

Figuring Your Business’s Best Times to Post
Although knowing the general times when people are most active on various social media platforms is helpful, mileage varies greatly based on each audience. Pay attention to how well your content performs based on the number of likes, shares and comments. Are people clicking from the platform and visiting your website?
- Use tools each social media platform provides to see when your followers are most active.
- Pay attention to successful competitors and when they post, as their audience is likely similar.
- Tap into tools through social media scheduling platforms.
Pay attention to your analytics and don’t be scared to think outside the box. If you aren’t getting the engagement you’d like, can you try posting at a non-recommended time and seeing what happens?
Repeat Successes
Knowing the analytics behind each platform is crucial to learning the best times to post, which days see the most traffic and the types of content your followers respond to. Some sites offer more insight than others, but you can learn from each one by digging into the details and taking notes on what you notice. If you post something that gets a ton of engagement or goes viral, repeat the day, time and type of post for future social media marketing success.
