Here at Designerly, our staff is all about supporting graphic designers. Whether you work for an agency, a corporation or you’ve struck out on your own and opened a freelance business, we want to give you the tools and tips to succeed in your career. One way we do that is by finding the best graphic designer themes for your WordPress website.
You’ll save time, because we’ve done the research for you. We start by looking at what themes are out there for graphic designers. Next, we throw out any options that aren’t regularly updated. No one wants to leave security holes for hackers to enter a site.
Finally, we look at a list of things, such as aesthetics, user friendliness and features. Some of the themes might have a free component with upgrades for particular capabilities. Others are paid and include all features. We will list the details under each theme screenshot.
What Graphic Designers Need in a Theme
The United States government estimates there are 267,200 graphic designers making just under $60,000 per year on average. The industry has a slower growth average than many others at only 2% with no signs of picking up. With so many things being online now, graphic designers must expand their portfolios to better meet digital needs and compete with advances in artificial intelligence (AI).
Those working for companies and agencies likely don’t need a dedicated website for their graphic design work. However, if you freelance or work under contract, a website allows you to find new clients.
Things you’ll need in a graphic designer theme:
- Portfolio or gallery to display your work
- Theme that matches your specialization–if you work with banks, you’ll want a serious theme, but if you work with daycares, you’ll want something fun.
- Mobile responsiveness
- Beautiful images
- Customization options
As a graphic designer, you’ll want the chance to customize a theme and make it your own with a unique logo and images.
Our Favorites for WordPress Themes for Graphic Designers
You’ll find a lot of options that might work for a freelance graphic designer. In addition to the designs listed below, you might find that our favorite artist themes or portfolio options would work equally well for your needs. Here are the ones we adored and think you will, too.
Graphics Designer
Graphics Designer is a clean, minimalistic theme with separate areas for different types of services you might offer. The demo shows boxes in a grid for logo, banner and graphic design. The theme is mobile responsive and SEO ready. Full documentation makes customizations simple.
The theme is free to use, but to gain access to premium features, you’ll need to sign up for a $49 package. Once you upgrade, you’ll gain access to a banner slider, Woocommerce support, custom innerpage banner and the ability to hide and show sections. You’ll also gain more theme options.
Designer Services
Graphic Services has a bright, cheerful theme. You can change the colors by selecting different hero images. One of the most enticing design looks are the three-dimensional boxes where you can highlight your portfolio projects.
While the free version is scaled down, for $49, you can grab all the functionality including global color options, WooCommerce compatibility and additional slides for the header. We recommend a bright background for your hero images to grab user attention.
Omega Design Agency
Omega Design Agency has a professional look that would serve a graphic designer working with financial agencies or in the medical field. The blue tones of the design may make clients see you as more trustworthy and established. Color psychology varies based on your audience, so dig into which ones work best for your brand.
Omega Design Agency graphic designers’ theme is free but they do offer a Pro version for $69. Some of the best features of this theme include custom widgets, multiple page layout options, beautiful typography, multi language support and ability to organize widgets strategically. The professional theme offers customizable homepage layouts, built-in SEO tools and expert support.
Prime Portfolio Resume
Prime Portfolio Resume made our list because of the multiple options for different looks, layouts and features. Like the other themes already mentioned, it is free to download with basic features. The theme was created by Ignite and includes compatibility with Contact Form 7, WPML, Yoast SEO and Rank Math. We love the personalized look of this theme. It is a great one if you want to let your personality or unique skills shine.
Upgrade to the Pro version for $69 and you gain free updates for a year. More extensive customization options and ability to use the theme on an unlimited number of websites. The theme is compatible with all major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft.
Best Graphic Designer Theme
The Unique Graphic Designer theme comes to you from Mizan Themes. This was a new developer for us, so we spent quite a bit of time poking around their site and testing the theme. What we found impressed us enough to make this one our winner out of all the graphic design themes we tested.
One thing that makes it so attractive is the geometric layout in the header. It adds visual interest, which we’d expect to see in a graphic designer theme. While you can customize the look and select your own colors, we kind of love the blue and green color scheme going on in the demo. It’s professional but youthful at the same time, making it seem cutting edge.
The free theme comes with:
- Logo options
- Social media integration
- Elementor support
- Three template pages
- Documentation Google Fonts
- Forum Support
Upgrading to their premium product runs $49 and adds more options under each of the categories (more fonts, more colors, etc.). The two main differences we noticed between the free and Premium plans were:
- Six template pages
- Contact Us page
- Priority support
- One-click demo import
This gorgeous theme can help you put your best foot forward. When combined with a portfolio, you have a powerhouse of a site that will draw potential clients in and help sell your graphic design services.
Try One or All
We recommend trying the free themes first. The great thing about free software is that you can see which might work best for your company. Once you get a feel for your favorites, you’ll be able to more easily see if there are add-ons in the premium version you’d like to invest in.
With each theme above, the retail price we list and the sales they offer differ. You can usually save around 25% by going directly to each web developer’s site and clicking on the Pro or Premium button. All five options offered some type of discount at the time we checked for this article.
A beautiful theme shows your design ability. As your freelance graphic design business grows, you want a website that scales with you. All five of the themes above will easily adapt and give you a professional edge.
