7 Highly Anticipated 2017 Tech Devices

Posted on December 8, 2016 | Updated on January 25, 2023

With each new year comes new forms of technology. From new tech devices to entertainment products that can truly revolutionize the way that we live, these advancements are always something we look forward to.

So what is new for the 2017 year? Here are just a few of the most highly anticipated devices.

1. Medical Micro-Robots

Medical researchers are always looking for ways to make surgery safer and more efficient. In 2017, that might mean the help of micro-robots. The experts at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have come up with “micro-swimmers.” This technology can create incisions, regulate blood pressure and deliver medicine to hard to reach areas of the body.

The use of these micro-swimmers can mean more efficient treatments while also being less invasive.

While electronic papers have been in development for a few years, 2017 looks like the year we may get one of the brightest, most flexible and shatterproof digital displays created. O-paper, created by the OED Technologies in China, is made using graphene — a substance that is extremely thin yet incredibly strong.

This new digital display could mean stronger and thinner phones, tablets, computers and TVs, allowing everyone who has ever dropped their phone on a sidewalk to take a sigh of relief.

3. Cooking Robots

Many of us dream of the luxury of a personal chef. Unfortunately, not many of us have the money to fund one. In 2017, the highly anticipated robot chef may make its commercial launch.

According to Moley Robotics, the creators of the robot chef, each pair of robotic hands can create around 2,000 dishes. All you need to do is request on from your phone and your new personal chef will start cooking. While the lazy side in all of us can’t wait to purchase our own robot chef, this technology can also encourage healthy eating and better lifestyles.

4. Automated Cars

In 2016, we got our first real experience with self-driving cars. Tesla got their first self-driving vehicles on the road while Uber released a fleet of self-driving cars of their own in cities like Pittsburgh, but most of the country only read about this new technology online.

But in 2017, self-driving vehicles could become the norm. Mercedes, Google and Volvo all plan to add to the number of self-driving vehicles on the road in 2017. But don’t sell your car just yet. It will still take a few years before self-driving vehicles completely revolutionize the way we get around.

5. The iPhone 8

2016 wasn’t an exciting year for the iPhone, but that only means we may have more to look forward to in 2017. Since the iPhone 7 has been released, people have been developing their own theories for what changes will be made for the complete re-design of 2017’s iPhone 8.

Rumors include wireless charging, an edge-to-edge display and a glass body. Whatever Apple includes in their new iPhone, we can almost guarantee it will shake up the technology world.

6. The Galaxy Note 8

The family of Galaxy Notes has not had the best 2016. However, all that can change in 2017 with the potential release of the Galaxy Note 8. There have been rumors that Samsung plans to completely cut the Galaxy Note line because of the damage caused by the Galaxy Note. But as of right now, there are still a few reasons to believe the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in 2017.

While there hasn’t been confirmation that a new Galaxy Note 8 will be released in 2017, the excitement surrounding the iPhone 8 could be enough to encourage Samsung to get the new phone on the market.

7. Drone Police Cars

Drones typically bring one of two reactions — excitement over the way technology is advancing or fear over the thought of “Big Brother” always watching. Those feelings probably won’t change if 2017 introduces drone replacements for police cars.

While the idea behind drone replacements for police cars has been around since about 2014, we have yet to see the idea come to life. 2017 may be the year we start receiving our speeding tickets from a robot. But don’t expect to see drones completely replace police cars right away. The swap process will probably take a few years.

The new year can bring many exciting changes and those in technology are not any different. As technology becomes more and more important to our every day lives, it’s always exciting to see what will be discovered in the next year. While we will have to wait to see if our expectations and ideas are true, 2017 is sure to be an interesting year in the world of technology.
